Enjoy getting close to nature in Stoney Wood, Wirksworth's community woodland. You can go for a walk, picnic or play surrounded by trees and bird song. There are sculptures, including a labyrinth, infinity loop and the StarDisc. Discover the wood’s history from ancient coral reef to limestone quarry.
Mount Cook Adventure Centre
Experience the outdoors with a range of residential and non-residential activity experiences. The Centre sleeps up to 140 and the glamping pods up to 40. Activities include low and high ropes, bushcraft, archery, indoor climbing and an invigorating roof top zip wire.
High Peak Trail
Walk, cycle or ride the 17.5 mile traffic-free trail through some of the White Peak’s finest countryside. You can access the trail at Middleton Top Visitor Centre and Cycle Hire, just outside Wirksworth. The trail offers breath-taking views, wonderful wildlife and a close-up of the trail’s pioneering railway heritage.
Stride out through beautiful hill country along footpaths and quiet lanes. Hill-top panoramas, woodlands, the High Peak Trail, Carsington Water and Cromford are all nearby. Wirksworth’s hills are perfect for more challenging and adrenaline-fuelled mountain biking. Most routes are intermediate, suitable for families, and take you both on and off-road.
